CELEBRATION

There's a BIG IMPORTANT Day this month -- the 16th -- Easter Sunday. It's a day to celebrate! It's a day of hope! Jesus is alive!

When Jesus was born, He was called "Immanuel" which means "God with us." After His resurrection, Jesus said, "I will always be with you." And, that's the way we greet each other during our worship services, or when we part at the railroad station: "The Lord be with you!"

The risen Lord Jesus is with you. Like a shepherd with the sheep or like a Vine with a branch, He is that near. Remember, you are not alone. Jesus is alive and present to guide you personally and as a congregation. Keep telling that to each other: "God is with us!" Trust Him. He won't let you down. So, let's celebrate!

Holy Week schedule

April 9 - Palm Sunday Service of Holy Communion 9:30am

April 14 - Good Friday Special joint worship with the Japanese Center congregation, 7:00pm

April 16 - EASTER SUNDAY Festival of Worship celebrating the Resurrection of Our Lord 9:30am, followed by a special "Happy Easter" Fellowship Hour

It was a Joyous Day!

During the worship service on the last Sunday in March, our congregation was thrilled to celebrate the baptisms of Yui and Kai H., twin daughter and son of proud parents, Eric and Izumi. Married by Pastor Tom at our church when PT was here as our interim pastor, Eric said the

baptisms were made even more special with Pastor Tom and Adrienne here to participate.
Following an abbreviated coffee hour at church where the guests of honor were presented with an afghan and a lovely quilt from Nancy RI. on behalf of the congregation, we all struck out for the Pancake Lunch to be held at the parsonage at noon. A few went by car or subway but many of us hiked over the hill and through Yasukuni Shrine on our way to Kojimachi. It was a bit early to enjoy the cherry blossoms but there were many other trees in bloom all along the moat.
With almost 30 people cozily crowded into the living/dining room, the cooks in the kitchen were kept busy turning out those pancakes. Syrups and jams and fruit (and "what is that orange stuff over there?") were in abundance so everyone could enjoy the topping of their choice. Not much was left when it was time to wash the dishes.
And following the meal, Adrienne lead us in a round of bell ringing! It was loud and it was joyous! The R. family sang a few songs and Thomas W. even brought out his guitar. All that beautiful music in praise of our Lord was a wonderful way to end a special day.                                 (photos taken by Yoshi N.)

From our President

Dear Friends in Christ,

This past month, your church council has been continuing their work on "Future Directions" for our congregation. To begin this process, Pastor Tom suggested we challenge ourselves by asking two questions: who are we and more importantly, who do we want to be? In other words, how do we see ourselves as a congregation? And what do we want others to see when they look at us?

After much discussion and a bit of debate, we arrived at an outline that we will present on our website and in other publications under the title "ABOUT US". Based on what can be found in our own constitution and what was said by members in the four discussion meetings last fall, we have answered these questions by stating who we are, what our mission is and what we believe.

In addition, we have determined a set of Core Values that we pray will guide us toward being the congregation we strive to be: a congregation that is a blessing and a tool of the Lord's work to be done here in Tokyo. These core values now become our goals: providing WORSHIP that is inspiring, comforting, and guiding; providing CHRISTIAN EDUCATION for all ages; encouraging FELLOWSHIP that is warm and inviting; and enthusiastically sharing the Gospel through OUTREACH and SERVICE.

With this foundation of knowing who we are and what we want to be, the church council now will approach the questions of HOW. In our upcoming meetings, we will be discussing the best course of action our congregation needs to take in order to thrive and grow in the months and years ahead. Please keep our leaders in your prayers and do not hesitate to share your thoughts with any of us. And feel free to join in our meetings!

It is with joy in our hearts that we thank PT and Adrienne for being with us these past ten weeks. With your help and guidance, we have accomplished so much! By sharing our burdens, you have help to lighten our hearts and rejuvenate our spirits. You have been a great comfort to us and an inspiration to all in your dedication to our ministry and your faith in the Lord. We have been truly blessed by the gift of your presence! Our prayers go with you as you return to the US. Come back soon!

Agenda for Prayer

"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, His love endures forever." Ps 136:1

Jesus often mentioned in the Bible that believers should ask for anything through His name. We find this in Matthew 7:7-8 and John 14:13-14. He is always waiting for us to do so. What a wonderful thing it is! He is standing by and listening to us.

Let us pray for PEACE in April.

These days, everywhere we look we see violence. Evil tries to upset people and bring them confusion and madness, we are loosing trust in each other, and rampages to continue. So, this month, let us pray for PEACE among us: families, schools, work places, neighbors, towns, cities, nations, continents.

Also let us continue praying for our SPIRITUAL GROWTH and for abused, abandoned CHILDREN.

News from some former member friends who used to live in Ichigaya where Pastor Tom and Adrienne went biking recently .....

Dear Pastor Tom and Adrienne,
Thank you very much for your kind message and for letting us know of your progress on this difficult mission, mission I am sure you will carry to the best outcome with God's help. We pray for you and for the community who benefited so much of St Paul' action in Tokyo.
In Geneva, we are blessed as our projects, my new company and our new house, are progressing very well. HueyChen continues to pursue theological studies with a Chinese American church with a distance learning method. Clément and Gabriel are doing just fine. We are lucky to have a warmer weather after a long winter. I imagine Iidabashi and Ichigaya must be beautiful these days with the cherry trees blossoming.
God bless you and all who help you in your mission.

Prov 19-14. Our family is grateful to the St. Paul congregation, lead by our kind pastor Tom & Adrienne, for their fellowship and prayers. Thank you very much indeed.
