The manabon (Chinese) version of the Enoshima Engi, which is generally thought to be the oldest of the various versions extant (see History of Fujisawa,藤沢市史、第４巻, pg 354), was compiled by the monk Kokei (皇慶, 977-1049 AD) of Enryakuji Temple (延暦寺) on Mt. Hiei near Kyoto, who composed it in his 77th year (1047 AD), two years before his death (1). His original has been lost, but a copy is kept by the Enoshima Jinja (江島神社, Enoshima Shrine). I have used the transcription of this copy in 「江島縁起」考, pgs 125-127, as the basis for my translation. Below is a reproduction of the transcription.
