Even though we are teachers of English, we do not always have to use materials that are in English. We could use news broadcasts in our students' native language, in order to lead in to something else. Here are three ideas:
Give them articles in English on the same topic to read.
Start a discussion in English about the news story.
Listen to English news, or watch an English news program video.
