What Is The Precursor Of The Internet - There are now people alive on the planet who are using computers with regularity who have no concept of what life was like before the Internet. In this article, we take a walk down a proverbial memory lane to consider the question of what is the precursor of the Internet? We must say that the question of “what is the Precursor of the Internet?” actually is not simplistic to answer.
However, as a means of at least addressing the subject of “what is the Precursor of the Internet?” in some fashion, we do provide you with some accumulated historical information.
As with many technological developments, in answering the question of “what is the Precursor of the Internet?” we find that the precursor really had military applications.
In the 1960s, the Rand Corporation was given a contract by the United States Air Force. The thrust of the project was to devise a scheme through which the United States would be able to maintain is control and command over its nuclear arsenal after the commencement of a nuclear war.
The basic concept was to design a military communications network that could and would survive a nuclear strike. The network would need to be decentralized so that the United States military could access the network from a whole host of locations. (Obviously, this flexibility is necessary in the aftermath of a nuclear attack.)
The final proposal included the following description of the proposed network:
"packet switching is the breaking down of data into datagrams or packets that are labeled to indicate the origin and the destination of the information and the forwarding of these packets from one computer to another computer until the information arrives at its final destination computer. This was crucial to the realization of a computer network. If packets are lost at any given point, the message can be resent by the originator."
