Brief Personal History

I was born in Bushey, in southern England in 1966. I studied Ancient History, Greek and Roman Civilization and Russian Studies at Durham University as a member of Hatfield College.

I came out to Tokyo in 1988 and have taught English and Environmental Issues ever since.

In 1996 I won The BBC Wildlife Award For Nature Writing.

I earned my MA in Environmental Education from Nottingham Trent University in 1999.

In academic year 2005 I will be teaching at Chuo, Hosei, Takushoku and Tsuru Bunka universities and preparing my novel for publication. My hobbies are world travel, photography, reading, writing, pottery, fossil hunting and scuba diving. I like exploring ruins and museums.

I am very interested in conservation issues. I love wildlife, particularly reptiles and amphibians. I am currently a Director of ARCAS Japan and The Wildlife Volunteer Fund.

On November 22, 2001 Kimberly and I became happily married. We currently live in Takao, western Tokyo. Kimberly is studying Interior design and decoration at KLC College, London.

In 2003 we bought 4.75 acres of land in Farnerville, northern Louisiana and named it Crawfish Springs.
