Sick Building Syndrome

Good morning everyone. My name is Saki Hasagawa. Today, I'm going to present my research on sick building syndrome. "Houses" have a close relation to our life. I think the healthiness of our houses is very important to us. So, I'm interested in this topic and decided to do research about this.

My research covers two main points. I want to discover what sick building syndrome is and what I can do to deal with this problem.

First, I will tell you what sick building syndrome is. It is said that sick builing syndrome is a phenomenon whereby users of a building complain of health problems and discomfort. I think sick building syndrome is a problem which is caused by development of living quality. The more we tried to build convenient and modern houses, the more the ventilation became difficult. In addition, furniture has influenced our bodies badly. According to the Internet, these chemicals used in furniture, glue, or wall paper cause sick building syndrome. However, the specific cause of it remain unknown.

I have told you what sick building syndrome is. Now, I will talk you about the solutions.

Second, I will tell you what I can do to deal with sick building syndrome. The effects of sick building syndrome are lethargy, fatigue, headache, dizziness, nausea, and so on. According to the Japan times, these bad effects are caused by higher concentration of bad chemicals in buildings. So, I think a useful and easy solution to sick building syndrome is to ventilate rooms frequently. If we don't do so, bad chemicals that accumulate in the air do not move freely, the contaminants can accumulate in the closed space. Good air exchange is a very important thing !!!

To conclude, the situation might improve if we take care of our house ventilation and builders and decorators don't use harmful chemicals in buildings. The situation might deteriorate if we rely on chemicals too much in our everyday life. I think it is most important to notice that using many chemicals is a bad thing for our health. Now, most people know this fact and some builders make efforts to emit only low levels of chemicals. So, I hope this problem will be solved in the near future.

Thank you for listening. Are there any questions?
