Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Megumi Tada. Today, I want to talk about the Increase of freelance Part-time workers. I am interested in the Increase of freelance Part-time workers, because this is problem of our age-group. I want to understand what type of occupations part-time workers work, why part-time workers are increasing, and why many young people don't get a full-time job.

First I will talk about what time of occupations part-time workers have. The number of free-lance part-time workers is increasing every year. It is clear when we refer to the percentages of part-time workers who are 15 to 24 years old. The result was 26.1% in 1995, 27.5% in 1996, 32.2% in 1997, 34.6% in 1998, and 36.6% in 1999. Part-time workers are working at whole sale stores, super markers, convenience stores and family restaurants.

Next I will talk about why part-time workers are increasing. There are three reasons. The whole economy is at a low level. The situation of employment and unemployment is the severest up to now. For example, the number of working people in 1998 was 65,140,000 down by 430,000 compared to the previous year. The number of employers in 1998 was 53680000 down by 230.000 compared to the previous year. Normal workers have decreased by 0.8%. In contrast, part time workers have increased by 4.2%.

The change of the work market increased dependence upon information and globalization. The effective want ad competition is the lowest ever. For example, the number of jobs per applicant changed in 1998, from January to March 0.16%, from April to June 0.54%, from July to September 0.49%, and from October to December 0.47%.

Finally, I will tell you about why many young people don't get a full time job. The reason that young people can't get a full time job is that:

1. There is not a job that they hope for.

2. The pay does not match their hope.

3. They can't take convenient work time and holidays.

4. There is not a job where they can make good use of their knowledges and skills.

Enterprises need capable people, such as those who:

1. can work hard toward the goal

2. can form some problems and suggest solutions themselves.

3. can respond to changes of situation flexibly.

4. can grasp many things with a broad viewpoint.

To summarize, it can't be helped that the whole economy is at a low level, but I think that many young people don't have a dream. If they don't make any effort, they will give up soon. A part-time job is certainly convenient. A part-time job is not bad, but it is necessary to get a full time job as a fully fledged working adult.

I think that the increase of free lance part time workers leads to the collapse of the pension system.
