WFMU 91.1 FM, a public radio station based in New Jersey, broadcasting to the New York area, conducted a poll in October amongst its listeners regarding the best discovery they had made in 1999. Interestingly, P. F. Sloan came in at the top of the list of 100 discoveries!

1999.09.10
Some great news! The 5-song set performed at The Moondog Cafe on 1999.09.03 is now available for viewing over the Internet as streaming Real Video from The Green Cafe L.A. website! The webcast lasts just over 25 minutes, and while the video is of rather poor quality, the audio is fairly good. The second song is a new composition, "Strawberries".

1999.09.03
Live performance at the Moondog Cafe.

1999.08.18
"Secret Agent Man" has been featured in yet another US box-office-topping comedy. Following on the heels of its appearance in "Austin Powers - International Man of Mystery" and "Ace Ventura - When Nature Calls", it now appears in "Bowfinger". A new (definitive?) version of the song will be recorded this week.

A reminder that the One Way "Anthology" CD has been deleted, (the Barry McGuire "Anthology" also), and further copies will not be pressed, so in case you haven't got it yet, you should contact One Way directly, as they still have some copies in stock.

1999.05.03
The autobiography "Take Me For What I'm Worth" by Stephen McParland has been finished, and if there is sufficient demand, a limited amount will be printed. Contact Stephen McParland directly for further details.

The on-off Varese Vintage CD "Child of Our Times" has been postponed indefinitely, due to legal problems.

1999.04.30
There will be a concert held in Detroit this weekend at the Old Miami (a place described as "not for the squeamish" due to its preference for punk bands "that always trash the place"!), with two sets, consisting of 16 songs apiece.

1999.04.26
An impromptu free concert was held at Manitoba's, a small neighborhood bar / club in New York on 99.04.26.
He was backed by an East Village electric band called Beat Rodeo, who regularly perform at the bar on Monday nights. They have been described in the following terms: "This hard-tourin' band knocks out hard-core country perfect for a hard-drinkin' night on the town". The set consisted mainly of oldies, including two songs popularised by Elvis Presley in the middle of the set, "My Baby Left Me" and "Money, Honey"

1999.04.25
The Varese Vintage schedule for the remainder of 1999 has been posted, but unfortunately "The Trousdale Sessions" is not among the forthcoming releases.

1999.04.22
Jimmy Webb's 1970 album "Words And Music", on which his composition "P. F. Sloan" first appeared, was released on CD for the first time on 1999.04.21 by WEA Japan (WPCR 10304).

1999.04.17
The Trousdale Sessions CD continues to be put onto new release schedules. Although the Varese Vintage website has taken down much of the information relating to its release, Billboard is listing it in its April - June schedule, with a release date "To Be Announced".

The tour starts today, so here is the latest inforrmation regarding it. Amy Rigby's diary on her website indicates that she has been listening to P. F. Sloan's work. The Coney Island High website now, however lists D Generation as the support.

It now seems that the opening artist at the Coney Island High concert will be Amy Rigby rather than Scofflaws.

1999.04.01 The following dates of the spring leg of the tour have been confirmed:

1999.04.17 The Moon Dog Los Angeles
1999.04.23 Maxwell's Hoboken, New Jersey With Martha Wainwright
1999.04.24 Coney Island High* New York With Scofflaws

*Coney Island High was described in Billboard as "New York's grubbiest punk rock venue"!

Additional information regarding tickets, etc. is available from the respective venues' websites.
As there are other dates forthcoming, such as in Woodstock, N.Y, Detroit. I will post them here as soon as I receive confirmation.
It is possible that the tour will have a second leg in the summer, comprising around 30 clubs from New York to Miami, and in the southern part of the U.S.

1999.03.31
This will come as good news to many, as it seems highly likely that a tour of club dates will be held this spring / summer across the U.S. I hope to have more news on this soon. There also seems to be a high probability that a live performance will be held at Coney Island High on 1999.04.24.

1999.03.28
Varese Sarabande released on 1999.03.07 a CD by The Magic Circle "Before They Were The Mamas & The Papas" (VSD-5996).

The booklet contains a session sheet from 1965.10.07, crediting "Phil Sloan" with performing on "Somebody Groovy" and "Go Where You Wanna Go" (neither of which are included). His guitar work is featured on track 16, "California Dreamin'" (although its inclusion on a CD with this title seems questionable).

1999.02.28 On 99.02.24, The Association's CD "Stop Your Motor" (1971) was released by Warner Music Japan (WPCR-10198), featuring the Jimmy Webb song "P. F. Sloan" as both track 4 and track 12 (single version).

Also, some CDs that have come to my notice recently, although have been out for a while are:

1. Various Artists: "Hey! Look What I Found (Volume 1) (Mavis MSCD-4501) (Made in Canada)
This 1998 release features as track 27 Round Robin's "Kick That Little Foot Sally Ann" (2:25)

2. 17 unofficial Jan & Dean CDs entitled "The Jan & Dean Collectors Series" were released during 1998 in the USA.Volumes 4, 5 and 6 ("The Liberty Years"), include various Sloan-related material. Baggys fans alert: Volume 4 contains "Horace, The Swingin' School Bus Driver" (Backing Track)!

3. Steve Alaimo: "Anthology" (Hot Records 5506)

This 1997.07.11 release includes as track 11"Pardon Me (It's My First Day Alone)" (Barri/Sloan) (2:52), also produced by Sloan & Barri.

1999.02.07 A concert has been scheduled for February 19th, once again in the intimate atmosphere provided by the Moondog Cafe in Los Angeles. For more details, contact the club direct at 213-936-4604. The club is located at 7160 Melrose Avenue in Hollywood. This time, also appearing on the bill is a band called Sweetwater.

1999.01.30 The Association's CD, "Insight Out" (WPCR-10076), featuring the wonderful "On A Quiet Night", was released on CD on 98.01.25 by Warner Brothers in Japan, with 2 bonus tracks (single versions of "Windy" and "Never My Love"). This song had previously been available on CD on the long-deleted U.S. compilation "Songs That Made Them Famous".
