2001.12.28 Issue #60 of the UK magazine "Bucketfull Of Brains" contains a fascinating interview with P. F. Sloan, conducted during his stay in London in August, 2001. The interviewer was Robin Wills (The Barracudas). It is available for ordering online from NotLame.
2001.12.15 P. F. Sloan is currently in India in the middle of an approximately month-long trip.
2001.09.16 During the trip to Spain last month, P. F. Sloan helped set up a charity to benefit both the homeless in Limodre, as well as providing money to refurbish a childrens' playground.Money was raised from sales of CDs at the clubs he performed at.
2001.09.11 Stephen Kalinich, with whom P.F. Sloan has collaborated on many recent compositions, is currently appearing on Sundays at a club called The Mint (6010 West Pico Boulevard, Los Angeles CA 90035), performing spoken word with Ivan Neville and Bernard Fowler.
2001.09.09 One of the first DVD-Audio discs to be released includes The Fantastic Baggys "Summer Means Fun". Released in 2000 by Silverline Records (SRDVD 92302), "Inside The Music - Surf's Up" contains 6-channel audio. Other songs include Jan & Dean's "The Little Old Lady From Pasadena".

The order of appearance of the performers at the Felipop festival in Limodre on Friday 10th August is: 22:00 The Easytones
2001.07.16 Preparations for the 3rd annual Felipop festival are well underway, which will provide us with the first European concert of P.F. Sloan. Further up-to-the-minute details about the festival should be available from the Felipop website. This is the revised version of the poster for the event:
2001.07.15 "The Honeys Collection" has been imported to Japan by Ultra Distribution (Catalog number: UD2032, Price: 2,625 yen), with the original Collectors' Choice Music CD being augmented by track-by-track liner notes in Japanese by Mr. Sano of Vanda magazine. 2001.05.31 It seems that P. F. Sloan will be participating in Felipop, a small Spanish music festival, on 10 August, 2001 (Friday). The 2-day festival is held near the city of A Coruna, not too far from the town of Fene, in a beautiful place called Limodre (500 inhabitants), 5 minutes from the beach, and a little further to the mountains.
2001.05.16 The concert at McCabes on the 12th was sold out (the club has a capacity of 116 people), and by all accounts, was a highly enjoyable experience for both the audience and the band. The performers were as follows: P. F. Sloan played piano and sang. Two female vocalists (Cynthia and Patrice) sang background vocals. Jesse Barish (composer of "Count On Me" for Jefferson Starship) played flute. Creed Bratton (ex-Grass Roots) played acoustic and electric guitar. Stephen Kalinich did narration on "Chinese Fish" ("Poisson Chinois") A Klezmer clarinetist appeared on a new song "Reincarnating Machine Gun Blues". ("Klezmer clarinet" is not an instrument, but a style of playing dictated by the form of the music, originating in Eastern European Yiddish Culture, in which the instrument, in this case the clarinet, takes on human characteristics such as laughing or crying.) With so many performers on such a small stage, it may have been a little cramped, but the adrenalin fuelled a marathon 135-minute show, featuring 18 songs - 12 new, and 6 classics from the 1960s. Given the enthusiastic reception of the audience, hopefully there will be more opportunities in the future.
2001.04.30 It has now been confirmed that the concert at McCabes on May 12th will be taking place. It looks likely that Creed Bratton (Grass Roots) will be playing 2nd guitar on some of the songs, including "Where Were You When I Needed You", and with the possible addition of a clarinet player, a flute player, and two female backing singers, it promises to be a great show.
2001.04.11 The concert that was to have been held at McCabes on April 28th has now been tentatively rescheduled to May 12th. Confirmation of this should be made by April 20th.
2001.04.07 The concert that was to be held at McCabes on April 28th will no longer be taking place.
2001.03.28 Following the death of John Phillips of The Mamas and The Papas from heart failure on Sunday, 18th March at the University of California Medical Center in Los Angeles, a remembrance concert was held by the Phillips Family, featuring many of the performers associated with his musical career, including P. F. Sloan, who played guitar on many songs. The MC was Lou Adler. Mike Love, Bruce Johnston and Terry Melcher performed "Kokomo", with Denny Doherty and Scott McKenzie on backing vocals. Other contributors included John's ex-wife Michelle Phillips, children (Bijou, Jeffrey, Mackenzie, Tamerlaine), son -in law (Shayne Fontaine), grandson (Shayne), Barry McGuire, John Stewart, Spanky McFarland, Owen Elliot and Sean Lennon.
2001.03.26 A full-length live performance will be held at McCabes in Los Angeles, for one night only, on Saturday, 28th April. There will be an even mixture of both familiar and new material among the approximately 20 songs to be performed. As the theater only holds 100 people, it would be wise to book early. Tickets will go on sale from 9th April. Check the McCabes concert webpage for further booking information.
2001.03.25 The front cover of "Child Of Our Times" is pictured below. The back of the booklet, containing the credits, contains a wider crop of the collage used on the promo CD.
2001.03.01 Promotional CDs for "Child Of Our Times" were distributed at the end of February. The cover, featuring a selection of Sloan-related album and single covers, is different from the one to appear on the commercial release.Interestingly, the track listing is exactly the same as its original conception several years ago, with a running time of 53:29. The back cover features the subtitle "P. F. Sloan - A Child Of Our Time".
2001.01.25 A book entitled "Bubblegum Music is the Naked Truth", edited by Kim Cooper and David Smay, is due to be published in Spring 2001 by Scram Magazine in conjunction with Feral House. P.F. Sloan, Steve Barri, and The Grass Roots are among the artists to be studied. For further information, visit http://www.bubblegum-music.com/.
2001.01.11 Varese Sarabande are planning to release 2 CDs of P.F. Sloan's demo recordings. The first CD is due to be released on 17 April, 2001, and will contain 20 songs from the 1963-1964 period. The second CD is scheduled to be released around December 2000 / January 2001, and will contain songs from the years 1965 to 1970. Given that the "Child Of Our Times" CD was due to contain 20 tracks from the years 1965 to 1967, it seems likely that this second CD will draw heavily from this concept. Hopefully these will be successful enough for the remaining 60 or so demos in the MCA-Universal archives to see the light of day. Meanwhile the project with Al Jardine is currently in a state of limbo while financial backing is arranged.
2001.01.09 The Fantastic Baggys' CD "Anywhere The Girls Are!" and The Grass Roots' CD "Where Were You When I Needed You" are currently being distributed in Japan by Ultra. These are the standard U.S. editions with Japanese liner notes and an "obi".
2001.01.07 An unmoderated newsgroup about P. F. Sloan was created by Mike Griffiths on January 5th, 2001. Visit http://www.egroups.com/group/pfsloan for subscription information. N.B. Due to eGroups merging with Yahoo, there is a new URL - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pfsloan
