This hat fit my daughter at nine months and fits my two year old son.
The yarn is Saucy Sport Cotton yarn which should be available at any big knitting store. I'm hoping to sell kits eventually, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
The green is color #558 (pistachio) and the red is color # 686 (cherry). You'll need 50 grams of each.
The gauge is 22 stitches to 4 inches on size 5s (3.75mm)
Cast on 96 in cherry and do 3 rows in garter stitch (knit every row).
Switch to pistachio. Knit 26 rows (about 3 inches) in stocking stitch starting with a purl row and ending with a knit row.
Switch to cherry. Do 2 rows in garter stitch (purl both rows).
Switch to pistachio and start decreases.
1st row : Purl
2nd row: *K6, K2tog* repeat (Knit 6, Knit 2 together - repeat until
end)
3rd row: Purl
4th row: Knit
5th row: *P2tog, P5* (Purl 2 together, Purl 5 - repeat until end)
6th row: Knit
Repeat last six row decreasing the intervals between decreases by one each time (i.e. row 8 will be *K4, K2tog*) until there are only 12 stitches left.
Last row: K2tog until end
Cut the yarn leaving a 15 inch tail. Thread the yarn onto a darning needle and run the yarn through the six stitches pulling them all together.
Use a darning needle and the cherry yarn to duplicate stitch (embroider over the original stitches) the following pattern. The first stitch in the bottom right hand corner should be in the 3rd row of the pistachio and the 32nd stitch from the right side.

Sew up the seam in the back. Weave in your ends and you're done!
