The Fiery Angel production in Japan was a major media event, since it was one of the first open public performance that broke the government's nudity (pubic hair) law. Special permission was given by the police because the Kirov Opera insisted that for artistic purposes of the STORY it would be impossible to creditably do Act 5 - a wild, sexual, chaotic exorcism - without complete nudity. There was a large police presence at the production.
