Next door to Rajput in Takadanobaba, Couscous is an old restaurant whose review could just be limited to the word “African” followed by a question mark. Just poke your nose in and you will understand what I mean. The only place where our restaurant has ever seen Africa is in postcards, yet the interior is decorated with pseudo-African graffiti. The food is unquestionably original, witness the huge Gyoza Africana, but is it African? If it were good, I could answer myself “Who cares?" right away, but the whole menu and its exoticisms are about as attractive as the murals. I wouldn’t go as far as saying that they are bad, but they are, I cannot find a better word, unconvincing. The owner himself in an interview said he never studied African cooking, but that he had just eaten out a lot in Africa.
