This is another of those restaurants I love to review because it's so good and underpriced. Those good people have just opened and need some publicity, and I don't mind at all providing some.
Just outside Nishi Ogikubo station, Sai is surely the smallest restaurants I have seen in some time: it's just four small tables, of which two outside, but it's pleasant and clean, plus big in flavor and quality.
I bumped into it some time back and, being hungry, I immediately entered, because I have yet to find a bad one among these tiny, poor places opened on a shoestring, and I wasn't disappointed.
To begin with, their sets are a steal: for 1500 yen you can have two of six (excellent)curries, a salad, a chicken leg roasted in a tandoori, rice or naan, and a dessert.
I won't waste any more of my time or yours: I am sure you have already recognized the kind of place it is. Let me emphasize however that not only everything was top quality, but that the curries, even a trivial dish like the sag panir, had what I believe was a regional accent and were not what I expected. No suprise here: the two cooks are from Bangla Desh.
This alone puts Sai a bit above average regardless of price.
Highly recommended.
