Seiwa Gakuen

SEIWA GAKUEN (Girls School) "ECO #325502 (Seiwa)"

Seiwa Girls School is located in the city of Kochi on the Island of Shikoku. It was begun by Presbyterian Missionaries in 1901, and has a long history of cooperation with the PC(USA) and its predecessors. There are over 340 students enrolled in the high school, junior high school and business course.

The Christian Faith is central to the curriculum and the teachers are very faithful in their witness to our Lord with the result that this school has probably the best percentage of baptisms and professions of faith of any of our schools. It is also the one which faces the greatest financial struggle. It is the dedication and faith of Seiwa's teachers rather than their salaries which keeps them here. The declining population of school age children is mounting a terrific challenge for the school to stay vital. The Library Fund (ECO #325502) will be used to purchase books, especially English books, necessary to meet Japanese accreditation standards.
