MONTHLY FEATURE: We are launching a book exchange at our regular monthly meetings so please bring the books you read over the winter break but do not have the heart to discard and share them with other FWLA members and friends. We will have a special door prize drawing for those who donate more than one book to the FWLA book exchange.

FWLA meetings are open to the public. Everyone -- men and women, lawyers and those interested in the law or simply the featured topics of discussion -- are always welcome to attend our meetings so please invite your friends and colleagues.

Womenomics:  The Role of Asian Women in Fostering Economic Recovery in the Region

The FWLA is very excited to have Kathy Matsui, Chief Japan Equity Strategist, Director of Economics, Commodities and Strategy Research in Asia and Co-Head of Asian Investment Research, Goldman Sachs (Japan), as our special guest speaker for our June 4th meeting.

Kathy will discuss how economic recovery in Japan and elsewhere in Asia is dependent on the active participation of Asian women in both the private and public sectors.  She will also draw upon some of the recent successes realized by the Asian University for Women and why such educational programs will continue to be an important contributor to regional economic recovery.

In 2007 Kathy was chosen by The Wall Street Journal as one of the "10 Women to Watch in Asia" for her work on "Womenomics".  Kathy graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a BA in Social Studies, and holds an MA from Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies.  She also researched Japanese foreign policy at Kobe University Graduate School on a Rotary Scholarship.
