Mountains and Valleys...
Aside from Mt. Fuji, there are many great places to escape the concrete jungle and get into the mountains. |
The Kanto AreaPhotos>Mountains << Note, all images open to a larger picture in a new window. >> Hakone and Mt. FujiThe area surrounding Mt. Fuji is known as Hakone. This region is characterized by the 5 lakes, Mt. Fuji, skyline drives, and lots of onsen (hot springs). In the summer and autumn months, it's a very popular weekend escape, with lots of things to do, from hiking to waterskiing. One of the 5 lakes, Lake Ashinoko, on a somewhat overcast day. The view from the top of Mt. Fuji, Japan's tallest and most photographed mountain. @ Tohoku AreaThe northern side of Japan has a lot of great mountain ranges beyond the Kanto plain. This is Lake Akimoto, in the Ura Bandai Area. Absolutely great mountain roads that keep winding in and out of valleys. With limited traffic, it makes for a fun day of cruising. |
