My Desktop Setup
The base is an Intel SE440BX Pentium II
motherboard with a Pentium II 450Mhz, 512Mb of Samsung PC100 SDRAM, and the following
elements:
 | Drives
 | a Quantum 10Gb hard drive,
 | an IBM DTTA-351010
10Gb hard drive,
 | a Toshiba SD-M1202 3rd generation DVD-ROM drive,
 | a Yamaha S4416E 4x4x16x CD rewritable CD-ROM,
 | a Sony Handycam Memory Stick reader.
 | Video
 | a STB Velocity 4400 TNT Riva with 16Mb of RAM,
 | a Hauppage TV/Video capture card,
 | an Aiwa MX100 multi-standard VCR,
 | a Sony TRV10 Handycam digital video camera,
 | a 21" Mitsubishi DiamondPro screen.
 | Audio
 | a Creative Labs Sound Blaster
PCI64 sound card,
 | a Sony MZ-R50 Minidisc player/recorder. I just
bought it and it's amazing. Not only it's tiny (both the unit and MDs), but the digital
recording produces incredible results (you can event bypass SCMS). Connected
to the digital output of the CD-ROM (via a fiber optic converter), I record my scratched
CDs that won't play anymore on the stereo (but play on the CD-ROM) on minidiscs.
 | a Boston Acoustics Digital MediaTheater set of digital speakers,
 | a Sony DR50 headset with microphone.
 | Networking
 | a 3Com Etherlink III 3C509B 10Mbps
network card.
 | a 3Com TP4 Hub to link the desktop and
the notebook (part of the 3Com OfficeConnect networking kit).
 | a NEC Aterm IT65Pro ISDN TA/DSU
unit connected to one of the USB ports.
 | Scanning/Printing
 | a Canon CanoScan FB 620U flatbed scanner,
 | an HP PhotoSmart P1100 photo printer.

The desktop runs Windows 98 US, Windows 98 Japanese, Windows
2000 and
BeOS. Internet connection is through Global Online Japan
(and GRIC roaming when I travel) and Internet telephony
through DeltaThree using VocalTec Internet Phone software.

My Portable Setup
My notebook is
an IBM T22 Pentium III 900Mhz with 512Mb of RAM and a 20Gb hard drive. The
notebook runs Windows 2000.

My Mobile Setup
My mobile
solution is the small Sharp Zaurus Pocket MI-110M with 10Mb of RAM and
a 14.4Kb modem, coupled with a PHS cell phone. My only regret is that Sharp doesn't give
the development kit for free (300,000 yens!!).
