Leaving Japan . . . for Dummies         6

What happiness!
My treasure, a scroll made by me, my calligraphy, my poem, has been "lost" for years, but there it was, in a place I had looked many times.  The poem, "On a journey to an unknown country, one woman, alone" is an echo of a refrain in a science fiction short story I need to find again.....the refrain was, "One single woman, going on through, any messages? any mail?"

Besieged by requests for lunch, dinner, coffee....this is why you have to tell people you are leaving two weeks before actual departure date. It is hard to say, "No, I won't meet with you before I go," but packing comes first! Ouch all around. Thanks again to those who made the farewell parties early! Doing it in the last week just ain't gonna go.

"When we got back home, I felt relieved but also a little sad, and I felt the cool autumn breeze blowing in through the window, and I realized that we'd walked more than I thought because of how tired my feet felt, and then there was the bitter taste of the tea my grandmother made...part of me keeps calling all that up over and over again, like someone licking a very sweet lollipop, holding on to those memories with such tenderness......"
