The Kobe College campus is in Nishinomiya, a city situated between Kobe, the international port city, and Osaka, the commercial center of western Japan.

Kobe College (Kobe Jogakuin) was founded in 1875 by women missionaries sent out by the American Board of Commissioners of Foreign Missions. Its original name, Kobe Home, was changed to Kobe College in 1894. From the beginning, our educational principles have been the teachings of Christ and the fostering of an international spirit.

In 1923 the College was relocated from the city of Kobe to the present Okadayama campus in Nishinomiya. The land was acquired with donations made by alumnae and friends of the College; many of the attractive Mediterranean-style buildings on the new campus were built with funds raised by Kobe College Corporation, established in Chicago in 1890.
The beautiful natural surroundings and the international spirit of the College continue to nurture our ideals of liberal education and character-building with an emphasis on the individuality of each student, the pride of this institution. Today, in Japan as in other countries of the world, the future of society needs the contributions of young women. Kobe College is proud of its long tradition of educating young women from junior high school through college and graduate school, and continues its commitment to the educational ideals of excellence for women.
