The idea of this class is to give you a lot of speaking and listening practice.
Our book English Firsthand 1, New Gold Edition is very good for speaking and listening practice. I especially like the listening practice and the topics chosen for each unit.
Basic 1 courses are not much different from Basic 2 courses. The main difference is in your attitude. If you have not taken a class in a long time or are otherwise unconfident about your ability, you might consider the Tuesday evening course instead. That course uses AllTalk, a textbook which is great for giving students lots of practice in speaking.
During class we will spend about 15 minutes on listening practice, 10 minutes on lecture, 45 minutes in partner work and the rest of the time (20 minutes at the most) in small group discussion.
Notes
The book is English Firsthand 1, New Gold Edition. The publisher also has a book titled English Firsthand, Gold Edition. It can be very confusing! Be sure to get the NEW Gold Edition.
We will change partners/groups once or twice each class so that you can meet everyone often.
If you have any questions at all, please let me know by email.
