The movieA Christmas Story is an American classic - check out what people have to say about it at amazon.com or the Internet Movie Database.
Jean Shepherd wrote the screenplay
and narrated A Christmas Story.
The movie is based on episodes taken from two books he wrote (Wanda
Hickey's Night of Golden Memories, and Other Disasters and In
God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash). In addition to its Christmas
theme, A Christmas Story
is a focused on a person's reminiscences of growing up in America, which we
can compare to growing up in Japan.
Next semester: The Magnificent Ambersons
The book is a very well written story that traces the life of George Amberson Minaver. George was born into a fabulously wealthy and influential family, and grew up in the Midwestern US in the early 20th century.
The movie follows the book rather faithfully. If Orson Welles had been able to have his way with the studio then it would have been extremely close to the story in the novel.
