While the novel is wonderfully written, it is a somewhat limited and foreign world, 18th century Britain. The movie Clueless is set in modern-day Los Angeles. Although the movie was made 10 years ago, it seems very fresh and modern today. LA is in fact a trendsetting place.
The novel we will read is the Norton Critical Edition of Emma. It has a lot of background information, contemporary reviews and critical evaluations of the novel.
