Ok, you managed to uncompress the files. This is a tool for OMS on the Macintosh, containing patch names for the Yamaha CS1x Synthesiser. Updated from the MU-80 file by myself, Peter Lindsey to this version, 1.01, on 8th December, 1996 Many thanks to Adam Pfeffer of Opcode, who was good enough to sort out a couple of Bank Select conflicts related to the MU80 hiding inside the Blue Machine. Addendum:: the instructions below also apply to the file for the Roland MC-303. Firstly, I assume you're using OMS already. If not, download it from http://www.opcode.com/downloads/oms/mac/ Install it and setup your studio as described in the documentation. Then copy or move the file "Yamaha CS1x" into the directory: System folder/OMS Folder/Factory Names So that it can be with all its friends from Roland etc.. I'm not sure how software other than Cubase VST operates with OMS, but there should be a menu somewhere to set up OMS patch names. From this you will be taken to the OMS window which shows Device/Patch name document/channel/Device mode. In Cubase, select "Subscribe..." from the OMS menu, and in the file selector select the file which you've just put into the Factory Names folder. i.e. System folder/OMS Folder/Factory Names/Yamaha CS1x I apologise for the lack of clarity in these instructions if you don't use Cubase, but you'll have to read the manual for your sequencer software and OMS to figure out how to assign the file to your CS1x synth. Once working, you should be able to select a mode for each channel on the CS1x. Remember, in the CS1x's Performance mode, Channels 2,3,4 either don't work, or the data gets sent to channel 1 so don't use them in this mode. With the CS1x in Multi mode (who uses this?) you can only use the XG Names and Drumkit modes in OMS. I recommend using Performance mode on the CS1x, and assigning channel 1 to the Performance mode in OMS. Channels 5-16 can be any mode _except_ Performance mode. I would suggest using channel 10 in drumkit mode, and using the material voices on half of the remaining channels, with XG names on the other half. Performance: Channel 1 only. This mode contains all the patch names in the "preset" performance mode on the CS1x. If you use the "user" mode or your own patches, the names will be wrong, but the patches are still easily selectable by using the preset voice name with the same number as the patch you wish to use. Material: Any of Channels 4-16 in the CS1x "Performance" mode. This mode contains all patch names for the "Material" voices which are single-voice patches used to make up the performance voices. Some of these are left-channel only or right-channel only and some contain sounds you'd never use, but a lot are great to use on their own, with maybe a couple of added effects such as Chorus or Overdrive. Voices: Any of channels 4-16 in the CS1x "Performance mode, or any channel in "Multi" mode. This list contains all the XG voices as used in the Yamaha MU-80 I believe there are a couple which the CS1x doesn't use, but 99.9% are Ok, and if you select a duff one, a similar-sounding patch will appear in its place. Drumkits: Any of channels 4-16 in the CS1x "Performance mode, or any channel in "Multi" mode. This list contains all the XG drumkits, with note names, as used in the Yamaha MU-80. The file doesn't contain note names for the performance drumkits, or control names for anything. Sorry :-P Standard Disclaimer: This file was made by editing the file supplied with OMS2.2 for the Yamaha MU-80 and adding in the patch names for Performance and Material voices. Regards to whoever made the MU-80 file :-) it is for your personal use only, and probably contains a couple of typos. I accept no responsibility for any problems you have using it. If you manage to figure out how to set up control names, too. Please send me a copy of the revised version at: mail:/lindseyp@gol.com Have fun... P Lindsey. 9th December, 1996
