@node "Using" Using Mix mode To use Mix mode, follow these two main steps: 1) Select Set Options from the Song menu. In the Song Options window, click on 1-64 Ch Mixing. 2) Select Mixing Settings from the Settings menu, and set up Mix mode to your liking. The rest of this section describes the Mixing Settings window. Open it through the Settings menu. Mixing mode section The radio button at the top left selects the "output device", the device through which notes will be played. In Mix mode, the Output Device setting of individual samples (in Instrument Type) is ignored. All samples are played through one chosen device. Amiga 8-bit/14-bit: Plays notes through the Amiga. 14-bit is much better quality than 8-bit, and doesn't put much more strain on the processor, but it plays at roughly half the volume. For those that are interested, in 8-bit mode, the 8 bits of the left stereo channel are played on both of the left channels (similarly for the right stereo channel). In 14-bit mode, the 14 bits of the left stereo channel are split between the two left channels; one channel is used for the upper 8 bits, while the other very quiet 6 bits are played through the other channel. Because these bits are so quiet, the volume is roughly halved. Toccata 16-bit, MaestroPro 16-bit, Delfina 16-bit: Play all notes through the respective 16-bit sound board. See part 10.4 for more details. Disk 8-bit/16-bit: Selects "direct-to-disk recording". Instead of playing through your Amiga or a sound board, OctaMED stores the output on disk as a sample. See part 10.5 for more details. The sound output will be in mono (the same on both speakers), unless you switch the Stereo check box on. Mono is faster than stereo, in the sense that there is less strain on your Amiga's processor. Smoothing mode significantly enhances sound quality, but it's very slow. Because of its speed, it's only recommended for Disk 8-bit/16-bit modes, although you're welcome to try it with other modes. If you're lucky enough to own a blisteringly-fast 68060 processor, switch Smoothing on for truly remarkable results! @{" Mixing Frequency " link "Mixing" 0} @endnode
