What is a drum circle?
A drum circle is a group of people creating and sharing a rhythmical and musical experience. Percussion instruments such as drums, bells, rattles, wood blocks, etc. are used and some participants may even use clapping or voice to participate.
Percussion activities can be done by people who have little or no musical background. Our facilitator will gather everyone to a pulse rhythm and participants contribute to that pulse or improvise around it. The facilitator will make sure that the music stays interesting by orchestrating at key moments, or by sometimes suggesting a rhythm pattern, changing tempo or volume, accenting, call and response, and showcasing certain players or timbral groups. He/She makes sure that the players are listening to one another by stopping different sections of the group. This leads to perfect communication between players and from that comes the spirit of the group and beautiful music!
