Akaoni daiko is a Wadaiko performance group whose members are from all
over the world. Our goal is to explore rhythms and sounds and create
songs using the exciting power of the Japanese Drum. Our repertoire
consists of a mixture of traditional Wadaiko music, evoking the feelings
and rhythms of Japanese Matsuri, Mikoshi, Bon Odori or the "Japanese
Spirit", as well as original pieces reflecting our spirit as
individuals who are part of a group.
At present, our members are from America, Canada, Australia, England, Japan and Okinawa. Our members individually have played taiko between 1 and 10 years, but we have been a group since December of 2000 when we were asked to perform at a special event at Toshimaen amusement park. Since that time we have performed at company events, wedding parties, festivals, charity performances, as well as our own concerts and as guests at other performances and shows.
Although we are all from different countries, we feel that music,
especially the elemental beat of the drum, is a universal language.
We hope to gain some international understanding through the
Japanese Drum.
