ARAI EIICHI LIVE IN FUJINO November 13, 1999 (Saturday) Acclaimed Korean-Japanese blues singer Arai Eiichi will perform in Fujino at Fujino Workshop for Art's Creation Hall on November 13, 1999. Born to Korean parents in the southern Japan city of Fukuoka in 1950, Arai is best known for his album 48 Verses of Road to Chong-ha [Chon-ha e no michi, 48-ban], an extended ballad which recounts Arai's discovery of his Korean roots. Delivered in Arai's trademark gravelly voice, and transmitting the unapologetic style of a repetitive folk lament, the album received the prestigious Record Grand Prix of Japan [Rekoodo taishô arubamu taishô], the Japanese equivalent of the American Grammy award for the best album of the year in 1995. From March to June of the same year, the song was adopted as the closing theme for the popular late-night news program Tsukushi Tetsuya's News 23. In the intimate atmosphere of the Workshop for Art's diminutive Creation Hall (capacity about 250), the concert is sure to be an unforgettable experience. Doors will open at Creation Hall from 6:00 PM, and the concert will begin from 7:00; food and drinks will be on sale during the intervening hour.
Tickets: Advance sale: ¥3,500
