As you can see, the gables are green—in fact, the whole house is green! We began building it in March, 1994, and moved in in November, but it took a full two more years to finish the place, since our builder went belly-up towards the end. During those two years, I learned a good deal more about working with wood than I knew before—and tile laying, and plumbing, and painting and . . .

Winters in Fujino are several degrees colder than in Tokyo, with a bit more precipitation. Due to the colder temperatures, when a substantial snowfall does occur, reminders of it may stay on the ground until well into spring.

Summers, on the other hand, are typical of a basin-type climate, quite hot at noon, but with substantial cooling in the evening.
