A Mom & Pop Store along Kôshû Kaidô
|
|
Residents of Japan don't need photos like this to let them know what a typical mom & pop store looks like, but I thought people from other cultures might be interested. These two stores, plus about three or four more much like them, are found in the area of the JR station along Highway 20 ( Kôshû Kaidô). Parking space is available in a town-operated lot near the station, but much of the business still comes in on foot as people walk home from the station. Much of the meager Fujino economy is built on this kind of family business. In addition to such family-run stores, Fujino has at least three convenience stores belonging to the major chains: one 3-F, one 7-11, and one BayStars Mart (the 7-11 is open 24 hours). In addition, a "genuine" supermarket, the Matsuba was opened beside the bridge Hizure Ôhashi in 2000, providing a bit broader range of shopping choices.
