Nagoya Union Church

Pastor: Mary Kay Sapp

Nagoya Union Church is located in Central Japan in the City of Nagoya. Nagoya is an International City with a central city population of some 3,000,000 and Greater Nagoya is the center of an industrial complex of some 5,000,000. The city has one of the great ports of Asia and of the world. More freight is shipped through this port than in almost any other city in Asia. Toyota is a surburb of Nagoya. You may recognize this name as it is the namesake of a popular Japanese automobile. Nagoya has always served Japan as a financial centers and as a result it is a very conservative area.

Nagoya Union Church
meets in Kinjo United Church of Christ

There is a strong Pulpit Ministry at Nagoya Union Church.

Services include both traditional and contemporary forms of worship, but the Bible is CENTRAL to all that is done here. Since the congregational is not only an international congregation but more transient than the normal congregation in the States, we like to describe it as a University Church where the congregation changes completely every 4 years.

The Sapps moved to Nagoya in 1974 and the Congregation at that time was composed of about 1/2 missionary Families and 1/2 business families and teachers at the Nagoya International School, with a sprinkling of Japanese nationals.

Today, even though the services are at 4 PM on Sunday afternoons, other than Frank, Mary Kay's husband, the only other mission families are only able to attend a few times a year because of their Japanese Church Responsibilities. The congregation today is almost 1/2 business families or English Language Teachers and 1/2 Japanese nationals. It is broadly international serving families from all over the world.
