I teach English (among other things, of course) in Japan, so I have links here for my students. The two things it's hardest to get away from in English are Shakespeare and the Bible, so I have a lot of links for them.

I also feel strongly that it is impossible to understand other human beings without understanding their language(s). I am very interested in finding more language sites, especially for African languages and Arabic.

For personal recreational reading, I like Jack Kerouac and other "Beat Generation" writers, as well as Shakespeare, Walt Whitman, and traditional folk ballads. What they have in common is their oral nature, and their use of the natural rhythms of English speech.
