This Link Might Refresh Your Memory http://www.1970sflashback.com/1977/Economy.asp This site isn't the very best. At the very top of the page, you can
go forward to the 80s. In the
row below that, you can see buttons for a specific year in the 70s. The link above starts you off at
1977, since we all started 10th grade in September of that year. On the left side, there are buttons for
categories for the year you have chosen. The one for "TV" is good because it has a list
of the top shows of that year, regardless of the year they started. The one for "Music" has the
pop hits of the year. That may
please or enrage you. Our high school days were a time when: *there was talk that the Earth was entering a
"New Ice Age" because of a couple of unusually cold winters with
heavy snow in the late 70s. *these
were still in the future: PCs, faxes, answering machines for the home, VCRs,
CDs, cable TV, mobile phones, Starbucks, the opening up of Eastern Europe and
end of the USSR, and AIDS. ===================================== HereÕs the companion blogsite to a nonfiction
book titled The Buzzard:
Inside the Glory Days of WMMS. The book was written by a
knowledgeable insider and covers the years 1973 – 1986. I havenÕt read the book, but I spent
a while looking through the site.
The blogsite has a lot of pages and includes photos of a
lot of advertisements featuring the Buzzard, videos of DJs at work,
commercials, some of the station IDs from famous people and the novelty song
ÒStairway to GilliganÕs IslandÓ. The site starts here.
======================= Links to Videos
from Cleveland TV from about 1974 to 1980 HereÕs a TV commercial for Cotton
Club Ginger Ale from the height of the Disco Days. You have got to see it to believe it isnÕt a joke. ============= HereÕs another one for Cotton Club
products from 1977. ============ A Frankie Laine imitator sings ÒRoll On, Big OÓ in the old
LawsonÕs TV commercial. Go here. ============ ÒCatch 5Ó promo for WEWS-TV channel 5. See who the news team was in the
70s. It is here. ============ This is a short montage of images of Sohio gas
stations with the old Sohio weather information from the radio. ============ Who
can forget ÒPolka VarietiesÓ? This
clip
is from 1982. ============ The
last couple minutes of 1976Õs ÒThe Miracle at RichfieldÓ are here. ============ Channel
61Õs Ghoul and Froggy are here. ============ A clip of Toto performing ÒHold the LineÓ live at the Agora

Municipal Stadium in 1979 begins with this
clip. (The first 20 seconds of it is a test pattern, and then you
can access the other clips on the right of your screen.) ============ HereÕs Southside Johnny and the
Asbury Jukes (with Bruce Springsteen) doing ÒWeÕre Having a PartyÓ at the
Agora in the late Ô70s. |
