1. Home Page	Mr. Tom Madzy (vo-ed, football coach) retired from BHS in 1993. He had been the football coach there for 26 years. In Oct. 1997, he died of cancer at the age of 60. Click on his name to see photos of him at a day in his honor a few weeks before his death. Mr. Madzy also won the 1996 Grindstone Award given by the city of Berea each year to a distinguished citizen. (L) Back Then (R) Tom Madzy Day 1997 Mr. E. Mercer (band) lives in the Cleveland area. (Info. as of Feb. 2009) 1980 Yearbook Mr. D. Minich (asst. principal) lives in the Cleveland area. (Info. as of Sept. 2006) 1980 Yearbook Mr. Bela Molnar (coordinator) is now the principal of Midpark. He kindly sent greetings and biographical information: The 1979 -1980 schoolyear was his first year at Berea HS, so he only had the one year to get to know the students of the Class of '80. He has been married for 31 years to his wife Nancy, who was a chemistry teacher at Berea HS, until she "retired" in 1979 to raise their son Eric (now 27 years old) and our daughter Mindy (now 24). This is how his career has gone since our days: - Coordinator of Attendance & Discipline at Berea HS 1979-82 - Assistant Principal at Copley HS 1982-83 - Principal at Copley HS 1984-1990 - Principal at Elyria HS 1990-1998 - Principal at Midpark HS 1998-present. Things are going real well, because an important levy for the Berea City School District passed in 2006. Furthermore, both Midpark and the school district have received an excellent school and district rating by the Ohio Department of Education. He plans on retiring at the conclusion of the 2007-08 school year, which will be his 35th year in education, and his 24th year as a high school principal. (Info. updated Nov. 2006) 1980 Yearbook c. 2005 Mr. T. Monahan (special ed., j.v. football) retired from the Berea City School District in 2004. (Info. as of July 2005) 1980 Yearbook c. 2001 at BHS Mr. T. Mulcahy is a guidance counselor at Roehm Middle School. As of 2004, he was president of the teacher's union for the Berea School District. (Info. as of July 2005) At Roehm Mr. C. Mustain (coordinator) lives in the Cleveland area. (Info. as of July 2005) 1980 Yearbook Ms. D. Nalazek 1980 Yearbook Mr. C. Nelson (librarian) died at a care center in Columbus OH on Jan. 26, 2009 at the age of 85, according to an obituary in The Plain Dealer. He had formerly lived in Berea. He left a son. He was an army vet of World War Two who had been involved with D-Day. (Info. as of Apr. 2009) 1980 Yearbook Mr. B. Ogilvie (golf coach) retired from the school district after 30 years. Ollila (diving coach and phys. ed) lives in NE Ohio. He is retired from the school district, but he still coaches diving for a private company.
