Afternoon tea is generally attributed to Anna, Duchess of Bedford. During the early nineteenth century, the aristocracy would rise late, take a large breakfast, then nothing until supper at seven or eight. The Duchess, complaining of a "sinking feeling" around 4 pm began taking tea to fill this gap, inviting her social circle to join her. Before long, the great English tradition of finger sandwiches, scones, cakes, and copious conversation was born. It has remained a firm favourite to this day.
M&P's 4 o'clock Blend is intended to provide a smooth sophisticated accompaniment to afternoon tea, while offering hints of exotic flavours. Despite its name, however, it may be enjoyed at all times of the day, with the addition of just a little cold milk.
