Despite tea's long history, the cool and refreshing iced version was not made until as late as 1904, when it featured at the St Louis World Fair. Amid sweltering temperatures, and unable to sell his wares, English tea merchant Richard Blechynden hit on the idea of cooling his tea using ice, and the result was a runaway success.
To make perfect iced tea, simply follow the receipe on the label but don't be afraid to experiment by adding a few herbs (mint is ideal), different sliced fruits, or even cordials (ginger beer makes a fine iced tea punch).
