Here's the venerable aforementioned shelf for dishes and whatnot. It used to have 4 drawers in the bottom but the handles kept falling off of them and they were hard to open so I removed them and made them into shelves. They actually are a good size for canned drinks (as you can see) as well as our Romertopf pot and large bowls. The big white thing on the left behind the glass is a bread machine. There's actually another shelf lying sideways on top of this large shelf to expand its capacity. The lack of overhead cabinets requires us to set up more shelving for storage. That's probably one of the biggest drawbacks to the age our apartment (besides the things I've whined about), we have to waste space with shelves because it's not modern enough to provide proper storage space. I covered the glass doors on the shelves with the kind of "frosted" contact paper you apply with water because I didn't like staring at all the dishes.
