Samarkand to Bukhara

We spent another whole day driving from Samarkand to Bukhara.

This is an old caravan-saray standing out in the middle of nowhere. A caravan-saray was a sort of hotel where caravans could stop.

This is an ancient well from which Alexander Great is said to have drunk. That means it dates from the third century? There are quite a few of these wells around. In fact, there was one in the school yard of the school we visited in Bukhara.

We stopped along the road when we noticed the Uzbekistan national game underway. I forgot the name, but it is basically polo with a dead sheep used as the ball. You can see the game, not very well, on the other side of the depression. These boys were also watching the game. The kid at the left is Ko.
