The rookies
		A still very young, university student Formula One driver, Ricardo Patrese, who will later go on be called "The iron man".
		Villeneuve: It is not Jacque, but the late great father, Gilles Villeneuve. He also was a rookie at the time. He came to Japan to stand in for Niki Lauda, who had already become the champion of the year. I was watching at the hairpin curve (at the back of the track) so I had absolutely no idea what had happened at the first corner during the race. After the race, the direction of the first corner was in a tumult. Then heard the race track announcement mentioning that Gilles Villeneuve was summoned to the control tower. I was devastated to hear that there was a huge accident (involving Ronnie Peterson and Gilles Villeneuve) killing several spectators only when I read the following day's newspaper.
