A.P. Art Kimono Project

Steve Tootell, A.P. Art teacher

Inspired by the work of Itchiku Kubota the great kimono artist the A.P. Art class used a blank kimono master as their palette to produce both a traditional and a contemporary kimo design. The purpose of this exercise was to become familiar with the tools and editing facilities in Adobe Photoshop 3.0.

Within the art program it is emphasized always that the computer should be used as a means to an end and that creative judgements and manual input must go alongside "flashy filter techniques". Students developed the ideas seen here into 1/8th size hand made kimonos using collage and multimedia.
