Tokyo
Union Church has an active and diverse youth ministry program for Middle School
(grades 6-8) and Senior High School (grades 9-12) students. Our goal is to equip
young people to fulfill the Greatest Commandment:
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul,
and with all your mind… and love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37-40).
While the foundation of our program is Youth Sunday School, there are a variety
of meetings and special events held throughout the year.
Youth Sunday School
9:45-10:45 a.m. (September-June)
Middle School: Library, off of Fellowship
Hall
Senior High School: Women's Society office,
back of Fellowship Hall

The Youth Sunday School
program meets on Sunday mornings from 9:45-10:45 a.m. (September-June). The
Middle School class meets in the second floor classroom. Using active learning
techniques, the Middle School’s Bible Blitz™ curriculum infuses the Biblical
story with meaning and purpose in young Christians’ lives. The Senior High
School class meets in the first floor meeting room. The purpose of the Senior
High CoreTruth™ curriculum is to explore the intersection of theology and
Christ-centered living, establishing a solid faith base for the students’
future.
Confirmation Class
In the spring, TUC offers a Confirmation Class for youth. This is a meaningful
time of learning, dialogue and reflection on the doctrines of Christianity that
may end by the students choosing to confirm their faith before the congregation.
Youth Group
Youth Group provides an opportunity for youth to integrate lessons from Sunday
School with real life experiences. Middle School and Senior High youth groups
normally meet separately, usually on Saturday evenings or on Sundays from
12:30-2 p.m. Through service projects, worship leading and fellowship events,
youth are able to explore their faith “hands-on” in a supportive,
Christ-centered community.
Retreats and Mission Trips
Both the Middle School and Senior High School youth have retreats in the fall.
In addition, the Senior High students take an annual Mission Trip for one week
in the spring. Through such intensive time together, the youth and adult helpers
get a chance to develop stronger relationships among themselves, the communities
with which they interact and, most importantly, with God.
By encouraging the development of spiritual gifts through study and fellowship,
the aim of TUC’s Youth Ministry Program is to equip young Christian leaders for
today. Timothy once wrote:
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for
the believers in Speech, in Life, in Love, in Faith and in Purity” (1
Timothy 4:12).
Honoring God’s saving grace begins with preparing youth to face life’s
challenges as Christians. TUC’s Youth Ministry Program strives to make God’s
call real in the lives of Middle School and Senior High School students, and to
provide a safe harbor for struggle, learning, nourishment and rest on their
faith journey.
