Pastor Barry Dawson
has completed his ministry at TUC. The TUC community celebrated his and his family's years of service on Pentecost.
Reverend
Matthew Hardin began serving as the Associate Pastor at Tokyo Union Church
in January, 2009. Prior to coming to Tokyo, Pastor Matthew served as the solo
pastor at Butner Presbyterian Church (PCUSA)
in the Raleigh/Durham area of North Carolina.
Pastor Matthew received his B.A. degree from
George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. He graduated in 1999 having
completed a double major in Philosophy and Political Science. After college,
Pastor Matthew lived in Washington D.C. where he worked as an Investigative
Analyst for the US Customs Service, in the Office of Internal Affairs. In the
summer of 2001 he enrolled at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia
where he received his Masters of Divinity degree in 2004.
Originally from Indiana, Pastor Matthew’s family
now resides in Florida. He has one younger sister, Natalie, and one younger
half-brother, Nicholas.
Pastor Matthew has taken part in mission trips
and ministry opportunities in Haiti, Mexico, South Africa and throughout the
rural United States. He is particularly interested in contemplative and monastic
spirituality (especially the works of Thomas Merton and Henri Nouwen), Christian
Education, and missions.
Pastor Matthew’s hobbies include reading,
playing chess, playing and watching sports, traveling, and cheering for the New
York Yankees.
