The koto originated in China and was introduced to Japan around the seventh century. The sound of koto has been winning Japanese hearts down through the ages. Today, 1300 years later, this instrument has evolved from an archaic stringed instrument for accompaniment into an unique Asian instrument able to play various kinds of music together with other instruments: strings, keyboard, woodwind, and so on.
