More About the Artists

Tracy Consoli:
Irish American artist living in Tokyo, Japan. Tracy graduated from the University of California and has exhibited extensively in America and Tokyo, working mainly in sculptor installation, painting and design. She will exhibit a room installation at Asiz Aoyama Gallery. Tracy currently is living and working in Tokyo and is founder of Varroom Arts and Design Studio.

Toru Kamiya:
Japanese artist living in Tokyo; Toru studied at the NCAD in Dublin, Ireland. While living in Ireland, he became influenced by Celtic spirituality in art and he will exhibit juxtaposed monochromes in oil. He currently works at the Tokyo University of Fine Arts as a part-time lecturer.

Alan Kenny:
Visiting artist from Dublin, Ireland. Alan will also be exhibiting at Asiz Gallery and the Tokyo Ryutsu Center during the Celtic Festival. He works with oil in a variety of styles ranging from realistic landscape to surreal fantasy using a unique painting technique devised by himself, to reveal light and shade.

Tei Kobayashi:
A Japanese/Irish American Installation/performance artist will present "Tradition" a homage to Lafcadio Hearn at Asiz Aoyama on October 25. Educated in the U.S.A., Mexico, and Europe, Tei has been living in Tokyo and exhibiting internationally for 15 years.

Bicultural, mother Japanese, father American-Irish, Tokyo-based installation /performance artist. Exhibited extensively throughout Asia, Europe and Nort h America. Since 1986, Kobayashi has been integrating installation and perf ormance elements into her work. She transforms the working space into a medi tative setting in which video, live action and recitation address personal a s well as societal issues.

Peter McIntyre:
A New Zealand artist of Scottish descent. Peter studied at the School of Fine Arts, Christchurch, New Zealand. He is also a jazz musician and a member of Thumpton Rye. He has worked as a free lance designer and artist in New Zealand and will exhibit recent works at Asiz Gallery Aoyama.

Jack McLean:
Scottish artist living in Tokyo. Jack graduated from Glasgow School of Art and Works in association with the Faculty of Transient Identity to stage exhibitions and performances worldwide. To date, this has included a tour of Pyrosculpture Performance and permanent installation of Micro Sculptures in major galleries and famous sites over the world. He will exhibit a Pyrosculpture installation at the Asiz Gallery Aoyama.

Tanya Murdoc:
Irish Canadian video artist, living and working in Tokyo, Japan. Tanya will show recent works on video at the Performance Event at Asiz Gallery Aoyama on Saturday 25 October.

James Summers:
Visiting artist from Aberdeen Scotland. James will exhibit contemporary Celtic illumination at the Asiz Aoyama Gallery and also at the Tokyo Ryutsu Center on November 1. At the festival, he will paint on site a work in progress and is keen to discuss his techniques and influences with all interested people, so please feel free to approach him. He is also prepared to sell work exhibited at the festival. He will be in attendance at the performance event at the Asiz Gallery on Saturday, October 25. James will also be giving a two hour workshop at 16:45 on Wednesday 22 October at the M. G. School of Latin Calligraphy and Illumination. For additional information, please call 03-3572-7991

Naoya Teraoka:
Japanese artist living in Japan. Naoya will exhibit sculpture of wire and lace which illustrates motion described by its static phases. He has visited Ireland and can see the connection between his work and the Celts through the aspect of movement. He has recently completed show at Lumina Gallery Center in Ginza.

Kate Thompson:
Scottish artist living in Ibarake Ken. Kate works extensively in public art and has had many major commissions, both in Japan and overseas, working in the medium of stone and clay. She will exhibit clay sculptures at Asiz Gallery Aoyama and has recently completed a commission for Gary Hiro, Manager of "Cars" nightclub gallery.

Merissa Walker:
Merissa Walker is a Welsh Australian artist, a resident of Tokyo for six years and co-owner of Inkslinger Design Studio. Merissa writes in English using traditional Japanese brushes, ink and paper echoing the spirit of Kana and Kanji. Her 1998 calendar "Inkslinger - Itadakimasu" is available at Asiz Aoyama and Graphic Station Gallery, Harajuku, where she is also currently exhibiting.
