St. Patrick's Sports Day

Laughing Leprechaun

This year's St. Patrick's Day Sports Day will be held at Ueno Gakuen on Saturday March 14th from midday onwards.
Ueno Gakuen University have kindly granted use of their facilities at their Soka Campus. They have a nice grass pitch and good showers and changing rooms. The nearest station to the campus is Matsubara-Danchi on the Tobu-Isesaki Line. Matsubara-Danchi is about 30 minutes from Ueno. A shuttle bus from Matsubara-Danchi to the campus will leave the station at 11:30am, 1:10pm and 2:10pm only. Should you miss the shuttle bus the address of the campus is:

UENO GAKUEN (SOKA CAMPUS)
2-3-1, Hara-cho,
Soka-shi,
Saitama-ken 340.
It is about a 5 minute taxi ride from the station and you should tell the taxi driver to go to Ueno Gakuen Daigakku otherwise you may end up at the halls of residence at a completely different site. If you need a map, please let me know and I will fax one to you.
The Sports Day itself will start with a soccer match and a high noon showdown between the Tokyo Irish and the Kanto Celts for the Dubliners Cup.
This will be followed at around 2pm by a combination rules match for the Ned Kelly Cup. The game will be a combination of Gaelic football and Aussie rules football. Anyone interested in playing in the Ned Kelly Cup should e-mail Gearoid Smyth at gsmyth@ptc.com.
A mixed Gaelic football match will then be played at around 3:30pm and the final sporting event of the day will be a hurling match. If you fancy playing in either or both of these then please bring your kit along.
The university have kindly offered to set up some marquees for us and there will be a barbecue and beer and soft drinks will be available. There will also be complementary hot whiskies - purely for medicinal purposes of course!
If you have any queries or would like to help out or whatever, then please drop me an e-mail at clancyp@guinness.com.
Please forward this e-mail onto anyone who may be interested in attending the sports day - the more the merrier.
Please do your best to attend and participate in what should be an entertaining day out.
Cheers,
(Paul)
