Visitors to this page may notice that the current restaurant selection is concentrated heavily around the "gourmet belt" of central Tokyo: Daikanyama - Ebisu - Hiroo - Nishi Azabu - Roppongi. This is because I live in this area. I would however like to get more info from other areas in Tokyo, where I do not frequently go out. So please, if you know some good restaurant in Tokyo, tell me about it! I am especially looking for Japanese restaurants that have an English menu. Use the email button at the bottom of this document, or simply click on the "Add a Restaurant" button below to fill out a form. Thanks!
A star indicates my personal favorites.
Means a new restaurant that has recently opened.
Japanese Restaurants very rarely offer an English or romanized menu. The major exceptions are the restaurants located in large international hotels, but they tend to be rather expensive, and also they close very early - usually at 21:00. So until I have collected more Japanese restaurants with an English menu (or you have learned to read a Japanese menu), please try the few that are already here, or go and enjoy Japanese food with Japanese friends or business associates.
Restaurant Names with accented characters are not handled well by all web browsers (especially when NJWIN is active). I have therefore appended the un-accented name in brackets where an accented character appears in the original name.
*Menu Language: the restaurants listed here offer a menu in a language other than only Japanese. Mostly the language is French, Italian, etc - according to the cuisine of a restaurant. I will however try to supply the menu language with each entry in the near future.

But you can still go to sing after your meal...
Santa Marta (Italian Trattoria)
3-10-34 Naka-Meguro, Meguro-ku.
Slightly hidden off Yamate Dori, but definitely worth finding [click here for a map].
A large selection of daily Antipasti, but it's really the simple things where they are at best, e.g. the Spaghetti pomodori or Risotto alla parmigiana;
the Scaloppine is paper-thin, and the Bistecca is one of the best I've ever tasted.
Another great taste was offered by the fig sherbet that accompanied the dessert.
Good value for money!

Very gaijin friendly modern teppanyaki.
Small venue; both counter and tables.
Paris Utage-meshi (International Kaiseki)
Mita Friends Bldg. B1, 1-11-26 Mita, Meguro-ku.
One of the finest discoveries of 1996, the all-female staff produces and serves a cuisine that I can best describe as "International Kaiseki".
There is no à-la-carte menu, just a course menu that is changed monthly with daily variations.
You can name if there is anything you dislike, and then it's up to the staff to serve eight to ten small and beautifully arranged dishes, selecting the best season food from all over the world.
A truely great experience!
Although it is in Mita, it is easiest accessed from Yebisu Garden Place. Pass the Westin Hotel and Tsutaya, then after the bridge on the left side.
