Cuzco
In Quechua, "Q'osqo",
Just outside the city lies the dramatic ruin of Sacsaywaman.
The scale of the stonework dwarfs Ko.
Slightly further outside the city lies another ruin,
that of Qenqo. Shown here is a sacrificial table carved,
together with the steps leading up to it, inside a single
huge mass of rock.
Outside at Qenqo, a dramatic circular gathering place
for Incan seniors with a huge stone puma at its center
(not shown), and this throne, occupied by one of the
latter-day descendants of the Incas, may be found.
Yet further outside Cuzco we find the ruin of Tambo
Machay, with the inevitable Incan fountain work.
Inside the city itself lies the church of Santo Domingo,
built by the Spaniards directly on top of, and leaving
intact much of, the Incan Temple of the Sun (Korikancha).
Today we see only the dinstinctive fine Incan stonework;
in its day, the temple was said to be covered entirely
with gold and silver.
