| Khabarovsk/ハバロフスク (2003.06.13-2003.06.14)  An escort by Sinus and close to 20 other bikers saw us to the Vladivostok city limits. Soon we were met with farms and field bigger than anything even from Hokkadio in Japan. We have been able to get 95 octane gas almost anywhere, and 98 in the cities. Some gas stations far from any town had only 93, though. At Russian gas stations you have to say how many liters you want and pump the gas after paying. Another common scene on the road is police checkpoints. We have had no problems if we stop and show our passports and international driver's licenses. However, at the first one we encountered, we mistook the officer's gesture to "stop over there" as "you can go,"which prompted him to chase after us with lights and siren! We met a German friend, Mika Kuhn, coming the opposite direction. Mika had come to Japan to get a motorcycle to take him to Hokkaido, then Sakhalin and other parts of far-east Russia. Our first day's ride was only about 300 km. We camped just off the road near some farmland. We had plenty of time to find a campsite as it is light until about 10 p.m. this far north. The area we decided to camp in didn't have any shops, so we dug into supply of Japanese food. Dinner was rice and miso soup. Rain started to fall in the middle of the night. And it was rain off-and-all for the 540 km that day to Khabarosk. We tried to contact Alex, a biker from the Linx of Amur club that Sinus told us about in Vladivostok, but we couldn't find a phone anywhere. We were luck to run into someone who knew him in the city center. Our arrival was expected, it seems. At last we made it to the Linx of Amur clubhouse where we spent the night. Khabarosk was our home for two days. Club members showed us the sights of the city and even invited us to a babeque party. Soon we will be off from the beatiful city on the banks of the Amur river.   ウラジオストク市境までSINUS達20余名のライダーが同行してくれ、ハバロフスクへ向けて送り出された。 市境を越えてしばらく走ると、北海道を５倍くらいしたような牧歌的風景が延々と続く。 ガソリンはオクタン価95が一般的でどこのスタンドにもあり、市街地だと98、田舎のほうだと93という感じだ。必要数量を言って支払いをすませた後に自分で給油する。また途中、いくつか検問所があるが、旅券と国際免許証を見せれば問題なく通過できる。（ちなみに最初の検問所では「止まれ」の合図を「そのまま行っていいよ」と間違え、パトカーに追いかけられたが問題はなかった。） 途中、ドイツ人ライダーのMIKAに会った。彼は5月に日本にいて、北海道、サハリン経由でロシアに入り、我々と逆方向ウラジオストクに向けて走っているところだ。300kmほど来たところでキャンプをすることにした。サマータイムの関係と北方にいるせいもあって、夜は22時近くならないと暗くならない。道中、あまり食料を仕入れるところがなかったので、米と味噌汁だけの食事をとって眠った。深夜になって、雨が降り出した。 夜が明けても雨は降り続いていた。雨中をハバロフスクに向けて、再び走り出す。 540kmを走り、ハバロフスクに到着したのは19時くらいになってからだ。ウラジオストクで紹介されたハバロフスクのライダーALEXに連絡を取りたかったが、ロシアの電話事情は最悪で、道中電話らしきものはないし、市街に入っても使えない。結局、困っているところALEXを知る人に偶然助けてもらい、彼のクラブのガレージまで案内してもらった。実に親切なロシア人が多い。 案内してくれたガレージでハバロフスクのライダー達と会い、そのガレージにある１部屋で寝泊りしていいことになった。洗車や整備など、次に向けての体制を整えるには恰好の場所である。 我々は２日をここで過ごし、ハバロフスク市内をいろいろと案内してもらったり、BBQで歓迎してもらった。ハバロフスクは緩やかな丘陵にある街だが、清楚な感じで大都市の喧騒といったものがあまり感じられない。雄大なるアムール川のせいだろうか。    |
