ダービー リングハンドルの壺 (1775年頃)
A Derby Ring Handled Vase Ca.1775

　チェルシー・ダービー期の、典型的な新古典派調の壺。両脇のリング・ハンドルに、レリーフの垂れ幕がかけられているのが特徴。ただし、蓋はオリジナルでない。1774年のダービーのロンドン店舗カタログ(*1)に、本品と同型と考えられる作品が二点ある。

56 A pair of elegant vases in skie blue, the neck, rim and bottom in purple coloured, gold-edged and ornamented frieses(*2) ; two rings of the same serve for handles and receive a gold tissue festoon the foot fixed to a gilt slab 11 1/2 inches high

73 A pair of sky-blue, ring-handled vases, shaped as No. 56, with white frieses(*2) 11 3/4 inches high

56 一対の優雅なスカイブルーの壺。首、縁及び底部には紫色で、金彩で縁取られ、装飾のついたフリーズ(*2)がある。同様の二つの輪が取っ手の役割を果たすとともに金色の織物の垂れ幕を受けている。足は金色の台に固定されている。高さ11 1/2インチ(29cm)

73 一対のスカイブルーの、リングハンドルの壺。No.56と同型。白いフリーズ(*2)がある。高さ11 3/4インチ。(30cm)

　チェルシー・ダービー期に入って導入された型の壺で1774年のロンドン店舗カタログに含まれている作品には、型番（それも80番より若い番号）が振られている可能性が高いのだが、本品には型番の記載がなく、何番であったのか不明である。
