ロントンホール　四季のうち「冬」の像 (1750-52年頃)
A Longton Hall Figure of the 'Winter' from the Four Seasons Ca.1750-52

　ロントンホールの四季シリーズのうち「冬」のフィギュア。長いコートを着た男性が炭を入れたかごを抱えている。ロントンホール初期の、いわゆる'Snowman'グループと呼ばれる、釉薬が厚くかけられ透明感の少ない白磁像である。ただし、本品には全体に黒い小さな灰振りが見られる。

　ほぼ同様の作品が、チェルシー（レッドアンカー期）でも作られている（チェルシーでは四季の全4体が知られているが、ロントンホールでは夏と冬のみしか確認されていない）。また、リバプールのサミュエル・ギルボディ窯（1758-60年）における同様の作例（冬）も知られている。もともとはマイセン作品を元にしたものだと考えられている。なお、ロントンホールでは、1750年代中期になると、この冬の像は、かごを抱えるのではなく、前面の地面に火鉢が置かれる形に変更されている。
