Steps away from the iconic Shibuya crossing, Hotel Fukudaya is nestled in a calmer residential area convenient for sightseeing and business activities.
Yasuji Tamura was born to a family that had run a Waki-Honjin (an officially appointed inn for Samurai and general travelers with status and wealth) in Niigata prefecture since the late 19th century. After he married and moved to Tokyo, he started his own Japanese style Ryokan called Hotel Fukudaya. His family continues the business to this day.
Just as business was thriving, the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 hit Tokyo. The hotel burned down in the resulting destruction. Shortly after, Hotel Fukudaya relocated to Shibuya to start over.
Having gone through WWII and both the 1964 and 2020 Tokyo Olympic games, the hotel building has been renovated several times while maintaining traditional Japanese interior design. The front entrance is now beautifully updated and waiting to welcome you.
Experience Japanese style tatami rooms with futon bedding for a one of a kind stay at Hotel Fukudaya.
